The Effect of Light Quality on 5-Hydroxyindole Metabolism in Leaves of Sedum morganianum (Crassulaceae)

1985
Summary Exposure of Sedum morganianum to various colors of light caused changes in tissue levels of tryptophan (Trp), 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), 5-hydroxyinrlole-3-acetic acid (5-HIAA), anrl the enzymatic conversion of Trp to 5-HT and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) to 5-HIAA. These changes imply a role of light quality on indole metabolism and suggest that 5-HT and 5-HIAA may be of physiological significance.
