Solutions for the impact of tourism on climate change

This article focuses on the importance of the tourism sector and its impact on climate change, since it is one of the main agents of CO2 emissions A review of the literature reveals that, with high internal and external pressures, such as those felt by organizations in this industry, these have to cooperate in order to identify solutions and adopt them to obtain CO2 reduction, which is one of the main objectives of sustainable development goal number 13 established in the 2030 agenda of the United Nations Thus, sustainable tourism is a better option to reduce the environmental impact of this sector and at the same time gain a better image displayed to the public This article also critically discusses the set of solutions that lead to the adoption of cleaner technologies that reduce financial costs, thus contributing to the economic growth of a given organization Solutions included herein cover three main areas: transport, accommodation and tourist activities According to UNWTO (2020b), the Covid-19 pandemic could impose a decline of 78% in international tourist arrivals for 2020, though this scenario is still uncertain But there is one certainty: “when the world stays home, the planet benefits ” (Berge, 2020) © 2020, Associacao Iberica de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informacao All rights reserved
