A Study to Assess the Organizational Climate of Selected hospital, Chennai as Perceived by Staff Nurses

Objectives: To assess the perception of organizational climate among staff nurses working in a selected setting. To associate the perceived organizational climate of staff nurses with their selected demographic variables. Introduction: Organizational climate is the set of characteristics that describe an organization that distinguishes one organization from other organizations and are relatively enduring over time and influence the behavior of the people.An organizational climate that encourages employee involvement and empowerment in decision-making predicts the financial success of the organization. To predict organizational success one can study the climate of the organization. Organizational success depends upon the organizational climate. Research Design: Non experimental descriptive research design. Setting: Selected Hospital, Chennai Samples: 30 Staff nurses who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Results: About 50% of staff nurse’s perceived moderate organizational climate and 50% perceived poor organizational climate.There was no significant association between the perceived organizational climate and the demographic variables. Conclusion: Many factors contribute to dissatisfaction in work place. Measures like delegating the additional tasks, taking feedback from staff nurses, reducing unwarranted threats and criticism, rewarding employees, providing developing opportunities, resolving conflicts, fostering co-operation, and encouraging interaction can improve the perceived organizational climate among team members in the health care setting.
