An NaI(Tl)-241Am high reliability, constant amplitude light pulser

1981
Abstract A light pulser consisting of a chip of NaI(Tl) crystal and an external alpha source was successfully constructed. The resolution (fwhm) of the alpha peak is typically 5.0% when reflector powders are filled around the crystal. Finally we have constructed as many as 200 pulsers without using any reflector powder in order to simplify the construction and to improve reliability. The average of their alpha peak resolutions (fwhm) is about 5.7%. The present type of pulsers are much simpler in construction than the pulsers with 241 Am grown into the crystal lattice.
