Design Examples—Speech Compression

1986
This last chapter is devoted entirely to the illustration, in the field of speech compression, of the theory developed in the previous chapters. We would like to emphasize that the results to be presented shortly are only of illustrative value and are not intended, in their present form, to be recommendations for practical consumption. As we already pointed out at the beginning of our work, the choice of the structural constraints is at least as important a part of the design process as the design of the system itself given the structural constraints. It was also mentioned that it is mostly an experimental-heuristic process. The design examples of this chapter are merely intended to be demonstrations of this process.
