Instruments and Equipments

Operative dental instruments and equipments are indispensable tools used by dental professionals to provide adequate dental treatment. The tool functions include but are not limited to clinical examination, material manipulation, treatment, restoration, and tooth structure removal. It is therefore of importance that dentists and dental assistants become familiarized with the peculiarities of the most up-to-date tools available in the market. This chapter illustrates and describes in detail the classification, design, and applicability of (i) active hand instruments, (ii) rotary cutting instruments, (iii) oscillatory cutting instruments, as well as (iv) complementary instruments used in daily practice. Additionally, an overview of available vision magnifiers, air abrasion, and laser equipment is also provided.
