Reactive Vacuum Infiltration Aluminium based Composite Hardness Variation with in situ Reaction Completion Level

2014
Hybrid aluminum based composite reinforced with alumina and titanium aluminide, formed in situ due to the reaction between aluminum matrix and titanium dioxide (reinforcement material precursor), Al/ TiAl 3 +Al 2 O 3 , were prepared by reactive vacuum infiltration. This technique prevents the secondary reaction compound formation at the matrix/reinforcement material interface, highly improving the hybrid composite stability. The reaction time was modified for studying in situ reaction development. It was measured the hardness on each obtained composite. The composite hardness increased with the in situ reaction completion level with 12.65%.
