Method for Testing Dilatometers on Sample Substances to Guarantee the Conformity of Dilatometric Measurements in the USSR

1972
Abstract : As long ago as the early fifties one author suggested the possible use of quartz and corundum monocrystals as standard materials for dilatometer verification. Measurements were conducted on the Institute's relative quartz dilatometer operating in a temperature range of 20--900 degrees and on another such unit operating in the temperature range of -100--+100 degrees. The measurements were performed on samples measuring from 2 to 20 mm in height and up to 10mm in diameter. The authors have plotted average curves for the specific elongation of the quartz and corundum monocrystals parallel and perpendicular to the optical axis.
