UMA ONTOLOGIA REPRESENTANDO AS SOLUÇÕES DE PROJETO DE ROBERTO BURLE MARX

2011
The objective of the present paper is to propose a design solution database to help students learn basic landscape design concepts and help them apply this new knowledge by using examples developed by an experienced designer. The system is based on an ontology that contains classes of design concepts and design instances. The information necessary to understand the concepts is represented in schematic shape grammar rules and each concept is related to one or more design instances. The first step in the development of the system consisted of setting up the hierarchical taxonomy of the ontology. This taxonomy was based on the structure of Alexander’s pattern language and on the hierarchical information structure of landscape design handbooks. A prototype system was developed, with examples of good design practice extracted from the work of Brazilian landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx. The prototype was tested with students during a workshop. The goal was to prove the system efficiency. Keywords: Ontology, Roberto Burle Marx, landscape architecture, pattern language.
