A QoS guaranteed multimedia conference service over packet based network

1998
The TCP/IP protocols were designed for reliable transmission of data. However, the multimedia stream possesses different characteristics and hence requires the use of different protocols. Multimedia applications can generally forego the complexity of the TCP and use instead a simpler transport framework. A number of protocols like the RTP, RTCP, RSVP and RTSP protocols have been developed to improve support of applications like audio, video and interactive multimedia conferencing. We propose the structures of QoS guaranteed multimedia conference services over packet based network, which uses the resource reservation setup protocol (RSVP) designed for integrated services, and we also describe a protocol stack that can be used for real-time multimedia services over the Internet.
