Diagnosis and treatment of atypical infection of femoral shaft fracture after internal fixation

Objective To explore the diagnosis and treatment of atypical infection of femoral shaft fracture after internal fixation. Methods Six cases with femoral shaft fracture and atypical inpection after internal fixation in this study were treated by taking out the fixtion, cleaning up infection focus and using an-tibiotics. Results All cases were followed up from 3 to 14 years with the mean of 7 years. All cases were cured. No infection recurred. The treatment time were from 9 months to 3 years (the mean time was 15 months). Conclusions It is difficult to diagnose and treat atypical infection of femoral shaft fracture after in-ternal fixation and the patients need combined therapy.
