CARACTERÍSTICAS DE LOS SUELOS DEL MACIZO MONTAÑOSO NIPE-SAGUA-BARACOA. I. SUELOS ALÍTICOS, FERRÍTICOS Y FERRALÍTICOS

2004
This work was carried out in the Nipe-Sagua- Baracoa mountainous region, which occupies an area of 5 380 km 2 , with the objective of studying the characteristics of different soil types and subtypes in relation with the new Cuban soil genetic classification. At the same time it was necessary to elaborate a soil map in scale 1:100 000, to determine soil characteristics together with the map. Results of different works conducted in the region were taken into account, specially the information about 1 400 soil profiles from the map 1:25 000 at the Provincial Soil and Fertilizer Management offices of Guantanamo and Holguin. Among the most important results are the diagnosis, classification and extension of nine soil groups, 16 types and 32 subtypes according to the new Cuban soil classification. This work also offers the area and characteristics of the three most developed soil groups in the region: Allitic (3 600 ha), Ferritic (80 544 ha) and Ferralitic (68 702 ha), besides characterizing the unsaturated humic Ferritic subtype, which is proposed as a soil classification contribution.
