Membrane Oxygenator Support for Pulmonary Insufficiency

A membrane oxygenator is indicated for a patient when maximal ventilator therapy proves inadequate. Such patients are commonly suffering with acute lung diseases from which recovery would be expected if time for therapy or natural reparative processes were available.
