A Cidade e o Rio

2021
The Meia Ponte is one of the main rivers in the state of Goias. It was fundamental in the construction of the new capital (Goiânia), and about 50% of the population in Goias currently lives in its hydrographic basin. Thus, the aim of this article is to analyze the relationship between Goiânia and this river from its foundation to the present day. The reflection permeates the relevance of the river in the initial project, the consequences arising from the city's growth and the lack of public policies to protect this source, turning it into a victim of degradation and neglect. The study dialogues with an extensive bibliography about the new capital, having as main sources the newspapers, the urban projects of Goiânia and the official decrees. The theoretical framework is from the perspective of Environmental History conceiving human relationships and interactions with the environment as inseparable.
