Method for monitoring thermal overload of an electric load element in a vehicle with more electrical consumers that within an operational phase, the partially less, are fed stream, in which the monitoring of the charging is performed by means of a control device based at least on a temperature parameter calculated load, whereby - during a first operating phase the control device, for calculating the temperature parameter load is assessed power loss of the charging or essentially proportional to it magnitude, - during one or more phases standby control device, between the first functional phase and a second operational phase, the control device is connected so fundamentally currentless such that it is not possible any parameter estimation of the load temperature, and - after connecting the device control in the second operational phase the control device, for the calculation of the current parameter of the load temperature, is valued at least a first parameter that characterizes the time of connection of the control device.
