Biomedical Engineering Applications-prototype World Wide Web textbook
1997
A prototype electronic textbook, called "Biomedical Engineering Applications", is now available on the World Wide Web. It contains 11 chapters-Introduction, Electrodes and Transducers, Cardiovascular System, Respiratory System, Nervous System, Muscular System, Skeletal System, Computers in Medicine, Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Medical Imaging, and Lasers in Medicine-and is suitable for an overview course in biomedical engineering. Each chapter includes links to selected topics, instructional objectives, sample tests and related information. The textbook is considered to be a prototype, since only student-generated projects are associated with each chapter, and supplementary reading material, in the form of traditional textbooks, is required. The long-term goal is to have instructor-written material as well as student-generated projects for each topic and to include interactive simulations to illustrate appropriate concepts.
