Efficiency of oxidation inhibitors for use in transformer oils
1972
1.
Different additives lose their efficiency to varying degrees as the aromatic content of an oil is increased. Of the additives that were tested, α-naphthol showed this behavior to the least degree.
2.
The susceptibility of an oil to Ionol is determined by the total content of aromatic hydrocarbons in the oil and is very little influenced by the type of aromatics. There are grounds for believing that the additive susceptibility of an oil is determined not only by the concentration of aromatic hydrocarbons, but also by the structure of a certain part of the paraffinic-naphthenic hydrocarbons.
3.
The production of a stable transformer oil from distillate from Anastas'evka crude is feasible if it is severely treated and Ionol is added. From the transformer distillate of mixed Baku paraffinic crudes, with an optimum treating severity, it is possible to produce an oil with good inherent stability and good susceptibility to Ionol.
