도시 1인 가구의 주거지 결정에 대한 젠더 차이 - 관악구 20~30대 가구의 안전성 욕구와 주거비를 중심으로 -

2019
Crimes against women are steadily increasing, and women tend to be more afraid of crimes than men. In particular, women have been threatened and insecure in residential areas in which the highest level of safety should be assured. This study attempts to analyze whether women who feel vulnerable to crimes in the residential environment spend higher housing costs than men in order to ensure safety. As such, this study conducts one-on-one interviews with 15 Gwanak-gu residents in their 20’s and 30’s and identifies how and why the level of housing needs is differently satisfied by gender. Specifically, women realize a lower housing need than men, resulting from gender differences in safety. Women give up on other residential and environmental factors because they spend a substantial amount of money on housing for higher safety. This implies that single-female households are exposed to the inferior quality of the living environment compared to their male counterparts of similar income or age.
