Surgical Management of Bladder Cancer

2015
For the management purposes bladder cancer (BC) can be broadly divided into muscle invasive MIBC) and non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). NMIBC is mainly treated endoscopically while muscle invasive disease (MIBC) needs multimodal management including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy in a multi-disciplinary set up. In cases where conservative measures have failed cystectomy may be the option in NMIBC while it remains one of the main options in MIBC. In selected cases it is possible to reconstruct urinary reservoir and even orthotopic bladder using segments of bowel.
