Reliability and validity of Morisky questionnaire in measurement of the compliance with hyperthyroidism medications

2013
Objective To evaluate the reliability and validity of Morisky questionnaire in measurement of the compliance with hyperthyroidism medications. Methods Eighty-five eligible subjects were selected and asked to fill in a Morisky questionnaire about their adherence in taking antihyperthyroidism drugs during the past 1 month; thirty-one of them received two surveys in the month. The internal consistency( Cronbach ɑ coefficients),test-retest reliability( interclass correlation coefficients),construct validity were calculated. Results The Cronbach ɑ coefficient of the questionnaire was 0. 726 and the interclass correlation coefficients between the items and the total scores of the questionnaires ranged from 0. 6 to 1. 00. Factor analysis yielded two factors with an accumulated contribution rate of 62.566%,and the loading values of all items on this factor were above 0. 4,communality 0. 4. Conclusions The Morisky questionnaire has good reliability and validity and can be used for measuring medication adherence among hyperthyroidism patients.
