Experimental study on splashing characteristics of magnetic fluid in a magnetic fluid seal

1993
Abstract The splashing characteristics of a magnetic fluid spindle seal designed for magnetic disk storage use were experimentally studied in terms of the meniscus spread and configuration formed around the seal gap. The critical rotational speed at which splashing of the magnetic fluid is initiated is found to be uniquely determined by the spread of the meniscus and the magnetic flux density.
