Decline and… Comeback. The Last 50 Years: 1965–2015

2016
After a decade of oblivion and rejection by the new experimental theater companies, right after his death in 1983, Williams was turned into a classic overnight. This chapter shows how The Glass Menagerie is his most often produced play in Italy, also several times for television, and follows the productions of some plays that had never been staged before, that is In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel and A Lovely Sunday for Creve Couer, among others. Some closing thoughts round off the issue of transculturalism and identify Williams’ oeuvre as a perfect example of world literature.
