Solvent-free synthesis and spectral characteristics of N -(2,2,2-trichloro-1-hydroxyethyl)carbox-amides

2018
Abstract A new procedure for the synthesis of N -(2,2,2-trichloro-1-hydroxyethyl)carboxamides - “chloralcarboxamides”, condensation products of chloral hydrate with carboxylic acid amides, has been proposed. In addition, the use of any solvents has been excluded, and the melt of chloral hydrate has acted as a reaction medium. The reaction has taken 10–20 minutes, and only in some cases, catalytic amounts of sulfuric acid have been needed for the reaction to take place. The condensation products have been formed with quantitative yields, and they do not need additional purification for their further use. The products obtained have been characterized by complete spectral data.
