A 16-PSK modulator with phase error correction

1993
A monolithic integrated transmitter that is part of a 3-IF (intermediate frequency)-chip set for a 16-PSK (phase shift keying) transceiver is reported. The Tx converts a 4-b digital input data word into a defined phase state of the IF. A first-order error correction results in a maximum absolute phase error of less than 1.5 degrees at an IF of up to 400 MHz, without external adjustments. Measured data and chip characteristics are summarized. The three-IF-chip set (16-PSK modulator, receiver, and 5-b analog-to-digital converter) is fabricated in a two-metal level, 13-GHz f/sub T/ (at V/sub CE/=3 V), silicon bipolar process. >
