This paper starts from the premise that there is a pressing need for teachers to be trained as principals, and that this training must be part of their initial training. Conceptual and referential foundations of this training are presented; referents which give information to put it into context are identified; its purpose is determined; and what knowledge, skills, and values teachers acquire while being trained as principals are ascertained. This training can be theoretically and methodologically conceived upon these foundations.
