GIS-based lightning monitoring system

Lightning is a furious natural phenomenon that may seriously affect the natural environment and human activities.Lightning causes injuries and deaths,disrupts human activities,and damages property.Lightning leads to heavy casualties and serious economic losses all over the world annually.Therefore,it has important social,(economical) and scientific value to detect and monitor the lightning activities effectively for the lightning disaster research.This paper introduces GIS-based lightning monitoring system,which is designed to be a powerful assistant tool for lightning monitoring network and lightning disaster forecasting and mitigation.
