X-ray-absorption near-edge structure study of IBi2Sr2CaCu2Oy.

A polarization-dependent I L 1 -, Cu K-, and Bi L 3 -edge x-ray-absorption near-edge structure study has been carried out on both IBi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O y and Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O y single crystals. The I L 1 -edge results indicate that the intercalated iodine layers receive electronic charges and the I 5p-orbital holes are in states primarily oriented in the I plane. The Cu K-edge results show that the electronic structure of the CuO 2 layer is only slightly affected by the iodine intercalation
