Synthetic Textile Fibres: Polyamide, Polyester and Aramid Fibres

2015
Abstract This chapter covers the important synthetic fibres: nylon, polyester and aramids. Fibre production by melt spinning for nylon and polyester is described. Aramid fibre manufacture by solution spinning and dry jet wet spinning methods is also explained. Fibre structure and important properties of the nylon, polyester and aramid fibres are provided in detail. Important applications of these fibres in various fields are described. Key issues associated with fibre blending along with its commercial aspects are discussed. A case study is provided for polyester fibre for apparel applications, which explains the importance and advantages of polyester in textile applications.
