Methodic Eco-design Considering Consumer Needs and Requirements - Case study with Computer Mouse

2005
This paper aims to develop an eco-product which focused on meeting consumers' needs so that it be well-sold in the market. Therefore the development process started from a consumer survey and ends with a product prototype. Computer mouse was a reference product for the case study. In order to identify the key impact phase in the life cycle, the LCA was performed. For the competitive product in the market, environmental benchmarking was performed. For the energy efficiency which was the most interesting characteristics for the consumers, double layer capacitors (DLC) were used as a solution. The DLCs have a robust charging quality and a much longer life span than the batteries. Furthermore, the lead-free soldering was implemented by considering WEEE and RONS legislation
