Modification of Enzymes with Water-Soluble Polymers

Though results achieved in the field of enzyme therapy over the last years might be considered as rather satisfactory, not all the optimistic expectations have been realized. This fact might be explained by a number of reasons, including side effects due to enzyme therapy, such as complications associated with the immune system, local irritative reactions, pyrogenic effect and various toxic reactions due to inadequate quality of enzyme preparations or to final products of the enzymatic reaction.
