Experience of MCAO model making in mice

2019
The transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model, which is made by occlusion of middle cerebral artery with monofilament, is the most commonly used animal model for studying focal cerebral ischemia at home and abroad moreover. The successful model has similar clinical symptoms to human cerebrovascular disease, so it has been widely used by many researchers and clinical workers. But it is not easy to make the model, the operator of the technical requirements are higher, and the animals are not easy to survive after surgery, high mortality. This research group will discuss the details of the MCAO model making process from various angles, combining with the experience of many years of model making, in order to provide reference for the majority of researchers. Key words: Monofilament method; Transient middle cerebral artery occlusion; Animal model
