Three new ursane-type triterpenoids from the roots of Sanguisorba officinalis L. and their cytotoxic activity

Abstract Three new ursane-type triterpenoids, 3-oxo-15 α ,19 α -dihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid ( 1 ), 3-oxo-7 β ,19 α -dihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid ( 2 ), and 18,19-seco,1 β -hydroxyl-3,19-dioxo-urs-11,13(18)-dien-28-oic acid ( 3 ), together with eleven known triterpenoids ( 4 – 14 ) were isolated from the roots of Sanguisorba officinalis L. Their structures were characterized from spectroscopic data (1D, 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS). All of the isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against A549 cells. Compounds 1 , 3 , 5 – 8 , 10 , and 12 exhibited significant cytotoxic activity.
