A Novel Laser Design Based on All-dielectric Metasurface Using a Multi-scale Approach

A new concept of vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser(VCSEL) based on all-dielectric metasurface was presented. We adopted two layers of silicon square with subwavelength thicknesses to replace the traditional Bragg reflectors. It has smaller size, lower light threshold and higher light efficiency. This new type of compact laser is of great significance for the development of high efficiency and ultra-compact directional laser.
