J dependence of nitrogen Q branch linewidths

High resolution inverse Raman spectroscopy has been used to determine for the first time the dependence of molecular nitrogen Q branch linewidths on the rotational quantum number (J) at room temperature and at high temperatures. Preliminary quasi-classical calculations are presented which are in excellent agreement with the low temperature experimental results.
