El membrillo cimarrón o tlaxistle (Malacomeles denticulata (Kunth) G. N. Jones): un frutal alternativo para regiones semiáridas

The Mexican serviceberry (Malacomeles denticulata [Kunth] G. N. Jones) is a native plant in the country, it belongs to the family Rosaceae and subtribe Pyrinae (formerly the subfamily Maloideae). This species is considered as a new “berry”, because its small and pinky fruits, with a high content of antioxidants. Malacomeles denticulata shows is adapted to semiarid regions and shallow and poor soils, turned out as an option as alternative crop. In this paper are showing the results of basic studies done by this research group to know all topics related with this species, and for increase this genetic resource as well as to document the available horticultural options in the Mexican flora for semiarid regions of the country.
