Crafting Out of Poverty
2019
The Kotwalia tribe, resident in parts of Gujarat state in India, is an indigenous bamboo crafting tribe. Being a landless tribal community in south Gujarat, they typically live on the edges of forests and river banks. Almost all of the approximately five thousand families of the tribe live well below national and international poverty levels. This is the story of Gira Ben who lifted her family out of poverty through making bamboo furniture.
