Самостоятельная работа студентов на цикле «Травматология и ортопедия»: оптимизация подходов и дискуссионные вопросы

2015
Objective of the article to discuss some aspects of organizing independent work of medical students in the curriculum of traumatology and orthopedics. It has been analyzed how far basic recommended types of independent work of students in this curriculum correspond with the principles of performance, taking into account the existing baseline; the possibility of self-control in order to exclude the probability of an erroneous understanding and consolidation of practical skills; ability to control the time actually spent; observance of the principle of individual assignment. The analysis showed that among the types of independent work, these requirements are in full compliance with follow-up of patients, writing academic history; preparation for module control; independent solution of training tests and work with educational software. Among the problematic or controversial issues, the following were highlighted. The authors consider it appropriate to put the task of writing an essay on a topic of choice only in curricula of at least 3 weeks. In short curricula, what is the cycle of traumatology and orthopedics, preparing brief summaries to class exercise seems to be more efficient form of extracurricular work. With the development of practical skills for independent work, it is advisable to allocate only a preliminary preparation (studying theory and methodology by literature and instructions). Consolidation and monitoring the correct implementation of skills received in classroom should be performed only in university centers for practical skills under the supervision of an instructor, and in the absence of such a center under the supervision of the teacher in class time (or in the time allotted to the consultation) or during work experience internship. Debatable point is the definition of criteria for the calculation of the time allocated to theoretical extracurricular preparation to the classes, the possibility of the objective control of the time required for this type of extracurricular work. The authors believe that attention to this issue will help to clarify the organizational aspects, and thereby to increase the effectiveness of students’ independent work during the curriculum «Traumatology and orthopedics».
