ELECTRONIC TRAFFIC AIDS ON MAJOR ROADS : COST 30 BIS

This report briefly describes the international cooperation in the first phase of COST 30, sets out the favorable conclusions and the convincing results of a public demonstration of an existing motorway control system carrried out at a site in the Netherlands, and describes continuing research on the following: (1) use of microelectronics for road/vehicle communications; (2) use of the Citizens' Band in the countries of Europe; ( 3) automatic incident detection; (4) regional radio broadcasting of traffic information; (5) detection of weather conditions; (6) variable message signs.
