A higher power and high efficiency supercontinuum generated by small core UHNA3 fiber

2016
Generation of super-continuum by using 5 m ultra-high NA silica optical fiber (UHNA3) with core diameter 1.8 µm and mode-field diameter (MFD) ∼2.6µm is compared with Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF). A 1064 nm gained switched pico-second semiconductor pulsed laser source is used to study the performance of supercontinuum generation and the amplified signal is coupled by direct splicing with UHNA3 fiber or PCF. Analysis of spectral evolution of the supercontinuum generated under various conditions is performed. Higher output power and lower splice loss is observed in UHNA3.
