Mastectomía subcutánea: indicaciones y resultados

SUMMARY Subcutaneous mastectomy (SCM) he's beer used as a prophylactic procedure in women at high risk for breast cancer, although its indications are not still clear. SCM was performed in 30 patients. In 13 cases contralateral SCM was indicated in patients with invasive breast cancer. In other 17 patients the SCM were bilateral (7 patients from this group had a previous diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ). In all cases SCM was followed by a reconstruction procedure. The mean age of the patients was 42.2 y (range 27-52). The indications for surgery procedure was in 20 cases a breast carcinoma and in 10 cases it was offered a SCM in patients at high risk for this tumor. In a median follow up of 5 years, cosmetic result was considered satisfactory in the 75 % of the patients. In 4 cases it was necessary to remove the implants. SCM is indicated in specific cases, but it is an option for women at high risk of breast cancer. In addition, this technique presents satisfactory cosmetic results.
