An aluminum alloy wire comprising an aluminum alloy. The aluminum alloy contains 0.005%–2.2% by mass Fe with the remainder being Al and unavoidable impurities. In the aluminum alloy wire cross-section, a rectangular surface layer crystallization measurement region having a short side length of 50 µm and a long side length of 75 µm is taken from a surface region from the surface to a depth of 50 µm. The average area of crystallized matter present in the surface layer crystallization measurement region is 0.05–3 µm 2 .
