Rumen fermentation pattern in kids supplemented with urea- molasses mineral block containing fenbendazole or tannin

2014
Twenty kids (3–5 month old) were allocated to five different groups. The group-wise treatment consisted of supplementation with concentrate mixture (100g/d) in T1, urea molasses mineral block (UMMB) in T2, medicated urea molasses mineral block (Med-UMMB containing fenbendazole @ 0.5g/kg) in T3, tannin (5% of DM) in T4 and UMMB plus tannin (5% of DM) in T5. All kids were offered ad libitum rice straw and berseem hay (40:60). On day 45th total nitrogen in T2 and T3 was significantly (P<0.05) higher than T1 and T4. Highest TCA-ppt-N and soluble nitrogen was recorded in T3 whereas, lowest in T4 Maximum concentration of NH3 -N in the rumen was observed in T2 and T3. Highest The Indian Journal of Small Ruminants 2014, 20(2): 118–120 Rumen fermentation pattern in goats microbial protein and total bacterial count was recorded in T3 whereas the lowest in T1 while, highest protozoal count was recorded in T1 and lowest in T4. It was concluded that addition of UMMB, Med-UMMB or tannin in the diet of kids favorably modified the rumen fermentation
