THE GRADIENT OF POLY(ETHYLENE GLYCOL) CONCENTRATION IN THE SURFACE OF POLY (ETHYLENE GLYCOL)/POLYETHYLENE BLENDS

2005
The surface structure of the PE/PEG blends was analyzed by using the attenuated total reflectance FT-IR spectroscopy and contact angle of water. The result indicates that the concentration of PEG is obviously gradient changed with the surface depth and the effect of inducement of the steel mould takes the important role to make the polyethylene glycol aggregate on the surface. The segregated poly(ethylene glycol) microphases is the basic domains to selectively migrate to the surface of the blends, so the size and distribution of polyethylene glycol microphase have the important effect on the aggregation of PEG in the surface. Then, the concentration of PEG in bulk is the key factor to determine its enrichment on the surface due to its influence on the size and distribution of PEG microphases.
