OPERATIONS CENTER GEARED TO BEING A "GOOD NEIGHBOR"

1988
The Manheim Township, Pennsylvania, Public Works Department has gained pivotal improvements from two new buildings tailored to the size and maintenance requirements of the highway and sewer department fleets. Although the space inside the facilities is structured around utilitarian missions, it also incorporates esthetics that make the total complex a good neighbor within a predominantly residential setting. The community of 27,000 therefore gained a twofold return from the $1.3-million program completed in the fall of 1987. This article discusses the planning and selling of the program, the resulting facelift, and the facility's daily operations.
