Neisseria meningitidis and Moraxella osloensis: Dual infection in blood and peritoneal fluid

1988
Abstract The clinical course of a malnourished alcoholic in which Neisseriameningitidis was isolated from the blood and Moraxellaosloensis from the peritoneal fluid is described. Following bacteriologic diagnosis, the patient was treated and responded to a course of penicillin therapy. To our knowledge, this represents the first case of peritonitis associated with M. osloensis. Clinical reports of the isolation of this organism are rare; its pathogenicity is not clearly established, and the presence of the organism may often be unrecognized.
