The effect of a complex yeast preparation, as a food supplement, on the growth of Ehrlich's ascites tumour in mice

1972
Abstract The effect of a complex yeast preparation, as a food supplement, has been investigated on the growth of Ehrlich's ascites tumour in ascitic and solid form in mice. Animals were premedicated with the preparation for 14 days before cancer inoculation, and medication then continued to completion of the experiment. Tumour growth was reduced in all groups treated with the preparation, as compared to control animals treated with saline. The preparation was more effective in male animals than in female animals. The preparation appears to antagonise the establishment (“take”) and initial growth of the cancer. Its possible mechanism of action is discussed.
