A macroscopic approach to statistical phenomena

The statistical distribution of quantities that in volve many microscopic variables is frequently independent of the assumptions made at the microscopic level and depends only upon very general macroscopic properties of the problem. In two examples where this behaviour occurs, we show that the distribution of the quantities of interest can be found by working entirely at a macroscopic level. The first example is the statistical theory of Nuclear Reactions and. the second one, the Theory of One-Dimensional Disordered Conductors.
