Using Lake Titicaca’s biological resources — problems and alternatives
2001
A brief introduction of the geological history of the Altiplano and its water systems is followed by a description of the existing faunistic situation (autochthonous and endemic fishes of the genus Orestias versus exotic species, represented primarily by salmonids). Eco-social as well as ecological consequences and evolutionary aspects are discussed. In conclusion, four recommendations are made regarding a potentially sustainable use of natural resources in the Lake Titicaca region.
