IMPACT OF NON-OIL SECTOR ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA

This study examines the Impact of Non-Oil Sector on Economic Growth in Nigeria. The study is motivated by the need for the long overdue diversification of the Nigeria economy. The study made use of secondary data sourced from the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) for period between 1991 and 2013. Using appropriate statistical tools like the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) research technique; our study revealed that none of the selected sectors have impacted positively on economic growth in Nigeria except the agricultural sector that was positive and statistically significant as well. Therefore, the study recommended that an all-inclusive sectoral economic policy that guarantees an all-round development for other sectors other than oil.
