A Compact Dual-Band Reconfigurable Filtering Antenna Using PIN Diode

2021
In this paper, a compact dual-band filtering antenna is presented. Initially a dual-band reconfigurable filter using integrated stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) is proposed to achieve the switching characteristics. The projected filter topology is implemented using four open-ended half-wavelength SIR to operate at 3.2 and 5.4 GHz. The PIN diodes are attached to the edges of the inner resonators which are used as switch ON–OFF elements. Finally, a dual-band monopole antenna is proposed using triangular radiating patch. Two different dimensions patch are constructed to radiate at 3.2 and 5.4 GHz. The filter and the antenna structures are cascaded together to realize the filtering antenna. The PIN diodes are biased properly to switch the radiation characteristics at the different operating bands. The composite structure is simulated and agreed well with the predicted response.
